communication and site visits will support the teachers during the
project.
Category Three: High School
Michael Blair and Randi Montag Peterson - Roosevelt High
School, Des Moines, IA
Recent studies from Purdue University and the University of Southern
Florida found that the most influential promoter of students' interest in
science was Star Trek and that when used correctly, is superior to
traditional educational films. We propose developing a high school
physics/physical science curriculum based on Star Trek. It will cover
the major concepts in physics by combining short clips from Star Trek
videos (that show the concept) with demonstrations, student activities
and engage higher order thinking skills.
